Pet-Friendly Hotels at Fiumicino Airport
Three of the six hotels on this site publish a pet policy on their own websites: the two Hiltons and the Mercure. For the other three, the only published rules come from booking sites, and they differ. This page gives each policy with its fee and weight limit, the Trenitalia rules for dogs on the airport trains, and where to walk a dog nearby.

The Hilton fees are one payment per stay, so they cost less than the Mercure’s daily charge from the second night. Best Western’s own brand site says pets “may be accepted” and asks guests to contact the hotel, while its Italian booking page is unclear; confirm before you book. Air Rooms publishes no pet rules of its own. Rome Airport Hotel Fiumicino’s website does not mention pets.
Assistance dogs
Italian law (Law 37 of 1974, amended by Law 60 of 2006) covers the access of guide dogs for blind people to public transport and to places open to the public. Booking sites list service animals as exempt from pet fees at five of the six hotels, including Rome Airport Hotel Fiumicino, which otherwise does not take pets. Trenitalia carries guide and assistance dogs free on all trains, with no pet ticket.
Dogs on the Leonardo Express and FL1
Trenitalia carries dogs, cats and other small pets free in a carrier of up to 70 x 30 x 50 cm. The Leonardo Express page also allows a small dog, with its canine registry certificate, at no extra cost.
For a larger dog, Trenitalia’s regional conditions of carriage, which cover the FL1, require a dog ticket equal to a second-class fare for the journey reduced by 50%. The dog must wear a muzzle and be kept on a leash. Trenitalia also asks owners to carry the dog’s canine registry certificate and health booklet. Taxis and hotel shuttles with a pet
The taxi pages of Roma Mobilità and Aeroporti di Roma publish no rule or supplement for animals. Tell the driver at the rank before loading a dog. None of the hotels publishes a pet rule for its shuttle; ask the hotel when you book. Hilton Rome Airport needs no shuttle, since the covered walkway runs from the terminals to the hotel, and Air Rooms is also reached on foot. Shuttle times and stops are in the hotel shuttles guide.
Where to walk a dog
The Hilton and Air Rooms are inside the airport complex; ask the Hilton’s front desk where to walk a dog. The Mercure and the Best Western are on Via Portuense, 3 km and 2.5 km from the terminals.
Baubeach, a beach for dogs at Via Praia a Mare in Maccarese, is in the Fiumicino municipality on the coast north of the airport. It opens from May to September and is closed until spring 2027. For other beaches, ask the hotel about current rules for dogs before going.
